Who we are

Yoga is not about how you look, it’s about how it makes you feel. At Yoga Den we create classes suitable for any age, size, shape and gender, with variations and alternative postures for you to use as you feel.  We pride ourselves on a fully inclusive studio where everyone is accepted and feels at home.

Christie’s vision is to bring Yoga and mindfulness to the heart of Northumberland; helping those of all levels to find a state of calm and evoke the relaxation response. Sometimes we forget to look after our mind, body and spirit. At Yoga Den a sacred space is created for all to grow mentally, physically and spiritually.

Christie’s Yoga Journey

Christie began her yoga journey as a teenager, using yoga as a way of warming up and cooling down the body before and after dancing classes and performances at school. She always loved the sun salutations as they were so fluid and opened the entire body. She carried on experimenting with Yoga postures and breathing techniques throughout university and her years at work. However, It wasn’t until 2017 that she found her true identity and took the plunge into teaching Yoga.

Yoga was a great escape from work and other things in life that she felt weren’t right. It made her feel at ease, centred and relaxed. In the summer of 2017 she left her career and travelled to Bali to train as a Yoga instructor. She taught in and around Morpeth in community halls and spaces, until opening Yoga Den, (the first Yoga studio in Morpeth) in January 2019.

In 2020 she completed her advanced 300 hour teacher training in Yoga Therapy as well as a further 200 hours in therapeutic yoga with world renowned Yoga Therapist Antonina Ramsay. Yoga therapy looks at the needs of the individual and creates a tailored approach to Yoga.

In 2021 Christie qualified in Pregnancy Yoga, and has undertaken further CPD courses in trauma informed yoga, life coaching, rehab yoga for knees, back and shoulders, ayurvedic medicine, sound therapy and many more.

Since qualifying in summer 2017 Christie has taught over 4000 hours of private and group Yoga classes, and continues to love teaching and creating new and exciting classes at Yoga Den.

Christie’s intention has always been to bring inclusive classes, workshops, courses and retreats to Yogis at an affordable cost, using the original philosophy of yoga as a business model.

Yoga is not a luxury, it is for everyone and can be part of daily life.

Away from Yoga Den, Christie loves cooking, baking, the great outdoors, keeping fit and most of all spending time with her family.

  • My yoga journey started in my twenties when I loved the feelings and the challenges that my Ashtanga teachers challenged me with. However, after a horse riding accident and car accident in the same year I had to look at working with myself in a kinder more compassionate way and discovered Hatha and Scaravalli Yoga. Yoga really helped me to see a different way of working with my body. After teaching Pilates for over 30 years, I turned my teaching path to Yoga completing 200 hours in Hatha and another 200 hours in Zen yoga. Anatomy and physiology and energy work is my passion and I have continued to learn as the years have gone by as part of my professional development. Most recently, biomechanics coaching, nutrition, and mental health. I would love to see in the classes and discover more about you as we go on this journey of Yoga together.

  • I have used yoga for many years. First my practice was purely physical to improve my flexibility, strength and restore my body as I trained to dance. Then as a way to unwind after a busy working week in the corporate world. Most recently I used my practice as a way to connect with and birth my baby! It is since the birth of our first child that yoga has really come to be an essential part of my life and to some degree a way of life for me. I often use the breath work to manage my energy and emotions. I use the Asana practice to recover, stabilise and strengthen my body and to make me feel good! I love practicing outdoors particularly on the beach. I am passionate about sharing the wonders of this beautiful practice with others. My training is in Hatha yoga and I am keen to continue my studies of the energetic body. I teach mum and baby and pre natal classes in mid Northumberland too. I can’t wait to see you all and share this beautiful practice together! 200 RYT

  • I have been practicing yoga for just over 5 years and began my yoga journey at the Yoga Den with Christie, way back on one of the first beginners courses! I predominantly practiced Vinyasa for a few years until I discovered Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga and was immediately hooked by the dynamic and challenging nature of the sequence. The linking of breath to movement is almost meditative and, despite the challenge of the sequence, I always find that I feel most calm and at peace when I come off the mat following a practice. I am passionate and so excited about sharing this beautiful, restorative practice with others.

  • I'm a part-time yoga teacher, part[1]time lawyer and full time mummy to two little ones, Thomas and Olivia. I discovered the magic of Yoga 13 years ago, at a particularly stressful time in my life. Yoga has been my friend ever since. For me, Yoga is transformative and has the power to hugely change how you feel in body and mind, both on and off the mat. I have a particular interest in therapeutic application of the practise. When I'm not on my mat, you can generally find me walking our puppy and little ones in the countryside that we are lucky enough to live in. And I'm never far from the kitchen- food is my other great love. I bake often and am known for knocking up a spicy chilli or a mean spag bol.
