The Art of Happiness

So, it’s now July, so much has happened since my first blog.

Family is one thing for me that I need in my life – my sister, dad and I decided to have our first family holiday in 14 years… We went to Tenerife for a week and spent the days walking, swimming, sunning ourselves and over indulging in the all inclusive buffets. We spent a lot of time reminiscing about the past, when my sister and I were kids- my dad has a fab way of making us laugh hysterically about what we used to get up to. The holiday was great and it was just what I needed to clear my head. That was the first week in such a long time that I hadn’t  cried and got angry at myself. Happy! I also read a book that has changed the way I think about everything – The Art of Happiness by the Dalai Lama. Read it! It’s a must! It made me feel completely different about how selfish I was being and what others are going through in the world. This book shows the east and west perspective and how we are all looking for the same thing in life. We can’t all get bogged down in what we think we need to have and do.

Anyway, I digress, I returned to the UK and decided to make a go of things with my partner after all it’s been 3 years and it’s not like we don’t love each other anymore – we’re just on slightly different paths right now. If we are meant to be then it will work out.

Whilst on holiday I had been thinking a lot about what I want out of life. The Dalai Lama said that helping others will make you feel happy. And it’s true – a few weeks ago I was out with some friends for drinks and a lady was stood alone for a while just smiling to herself. I could see everyone in the bar was looking at her like she was weird, out by herself on a Saturday evening. So I walked over and asked her if she wanted to join us, much to my friends surprise. The lady was so happy and thankful to me for that tiny gesture. We sat and chatted for half an hour before she left for a show she was seeing. That tiny gesture didn’t just make her night but it also made my night – I felt so happy and good about myself ?

How can I help people as a job?!

Yoga is one thing that has helped me reach a positive place and leave anxiety behind. This has helped me so much through stressful times – this gift of yoga could be my key to helping others. I researched yoga training, qualifications and prerequisites and decided that this is my calling. I’m going to be a yoga teacher and help others on a daily basis to overcome their downs. The yoga training that I signed up to is in Bali – I am so excited yet also really anxious (in a good way). I’ll be in Bali for a month by myself which is daunting but I can do it. I’m a strong independent woman and I’m not chicken-ing out. After the training my partner is going to meet me and we are going to travel around for a few weeks before returning to the UK so I’m getting the best of both worlds. I’m so happy he has decided to support me in this completely new venture and change in my life! It makes a massive difference when you have support.

So my journey to happiness has made massive progress in just 2 months.

I will keep you updated on my travels over the next few months.

Lots of love

Christie
